Cost per person: $185 USD/3,475 MXN (Open Outing 2-6 participants)

Includes:

  • Personalized guide and translation (Spanish/English)

  • Comfortable transportation round trip from Oaxaca city (1 hour each way). Pick up and drop off from your hotel or vacation rental (Centro, Jalatlaco, Xochimilico, Reforma, San Felipe)

  • Breakfast at our favorite local spot in Huayapam of tetelas and tejate

  • ⁠Two hour guided hike through the Sierra Norte woods with a local guide from the community (the hike is leisurely as we will be stopping and learning about mushrooms and the history of the area along the way)

  • Mushroom foraging and identification with local guide learning about their roles and uses in the ecosystem, local cuisine, and traditional remedies

  • A cooking class a cocinera traditional making tortillas by hand with local heirloom corn, mole, incorporating edible mushrooms we collect (when possible)

  • Lunch that we cook accompanied by our selection of traditional mezcal

  • Drinking water and light snacks

  • Donation to middle school soccer team for supplies and uniforms

*Please note that while the summer is generally a fantastic season to find wild mushrooms we cannot predict how many we find due to the yearly rainfall. We always check with our local hosts to ensure the best probability of finding a variety of mushrooms. Some trips we have found 30+ types and others we have fund abuntant amounts of a select few.

*We will be walking leisurely at an altitude around 2,800-3,200 meters above sea level, please make us aware of any medical conditions you have that might effect your participantion. Comfortable closed toed shoes like sneakers and hiking boots are highly recommended as well as rain coat.
