Visit to a Blacksmith´s Workshop

Schedule: 9am-6pm

• Quick breakfast of antojitos, little local snacks at our favorite roadside comedor

• We visit a workshop of blacksmiths who have been making knive, swords, and machetes that have used in mezcal production in the region for 4 generations. The workshop is famous for having made the sword used in the movie Conan the Barbarian. We´ll learn about the old fashioned process they still use to make their pieces

• Lunch of regional dishes at Ocotlán market

Alebrije Painting Workshop

Schedule: 9am-3pm

Cost per person: $165 USD/3,100 MXN (Open Outing 2-6 participants)

• Comfortable and safe transportation round trip from Oaxaca city (1 hour each way). Pick up and drop off from your hotel or vacation rental (Centro, Jalatlaco, Xochimilico, Reforma, San Felipe)

• Big breakfast of at our favorite roadside comedor, which only uses wood fire for cooking

• Visit to an alebrije workshop in San Martin Tilcajite, where we learn about the process of making alebrijes

• Hands on workshop where we paint our own alebrijes, learning techniques and design from the artisans

• Take home the alebrije that you painted

• Lunch of regional dishes at Ocotlán market

• Time permitting optional visit to a backstrap loom weaver´s workshop

• Drinking water and light snacks

San Antonino Embroidery Workshop

• Visit to workshop of women´s embroidery cooperative who makes pieces embroidered with the traditional flowers of the region, learning about the history and family story

• We´ll try our hand at the traditional embroidery of the region, guided by members of the cooperative. We can take home any of the broidery we do

• A chance to buy embroidered pieces like blouses directly from the artisans (price not included

• Time permitting optional visit to dry flower artisans or backstrap loom weaver´s market
